14But I will hope continually
and will praise you yet more and more.–Psalm 71
Another anonymous psalm with a great line. But this person was going through something extremely difficult. And he uttered a perspective that for many would sound impossible.
- THE CONTINUAL HOPE. You have seen God’s faithfulness in the past. He is faithful in your present. Therefore you maintain that hope for the future. Hope has a focus and for this to be you, your focus would always be on God and him accomplishing his plan in this world and in your life.
- THE MORE AND MORE PRAISE. If hope always has a focus, praise always has a person. And the psalmist wasn’t ever increasing the praise of himself, but of God. For this to be you, it would mean that your praises would not be limited by your circumstances or by how you felt about your situation.
Hope has a focus. So never stop hoping in God. Maintain that focus and perspective. Let that hope motivate and drive you. He will accomplish his plan and that plan is good. Praise has a person. Never stop praising God. Never allow your circumstance determine your praise. Your life should increase in thankful praise. See your perspective towards God as continued hope and increasing praise. And remember that the psalmist wrote about this using what appeared to be the worst season of his life.–JMB
