18Blessed be the LORD, the God of Israel,
who alone does wondrous things.–Psalm 72
Solomon wrote this one. Your understanding of this verse comes down to if you place anyone or anything else in Yahweh, the God of Israel’s category. The Hebrew word Solomon used occurs about a dozen times in the Old Testament. Here are a few.
10Then the Lord said: “I am making a covenant with you. Before all your people I will do wonders never before done in any nation in all the world. The people you live among will see how awesome is the work that I, the Lord, will do for you.–Exodus 34:10
5Joshua told the people, “Consecrate yourselves, for tomorrow the Lord will do amazing things among you.”–Joshua 3:5
9He performs wonders that cannot be fathomed, miracles that cannot be counted.–Job 5:9
3You asked, ‘Who is this that obscures my plans without knowledge?’ Surely I spoke of things I did not understand, things too wonderful for me to know.–Job 42:3
15“As in the days when you came out of Egypt, I will show them my wonders.”–Micah 7:15
Do you find the God of the Bible unique? Is He alone in his category? Or do you place others with him? The Bible is clear that Yahweh has no equal. All other choices are rendered impotent and futile before him. So when you treat God as an equal choice among many, you misrepresent what the Bible says. A life committed to God is an either/or not a both/and.–JMB
