11I will remember the deeds of the LORD;
yes, I will remember your wonders of old.
12I will ponder all your work,
and meditate on your mighty deeds.–Psalm 77
Our guy Asaph back with another great one! At times in this psalm, he seemed to feel that God was working against him. At other times, he seemed to communicate that God was his only hope. He couldn’t sleep. He groaned. He was so troubled that he couldn’t even speak.
So what became his mission? Where did he direct his sleepless thought? Remembering. Remembering the great deeds of God. Remembering God’s wonders of old. Maybe he pondered the 10 Plagues in Egypt. The miraculous crossing of the Red Sea or the Jordan River. Maybe he pondered and meditated upon the walls of Jericho that came ‘a-tumblin down. His pondering and remembering turned to a focused meditation. This would have been a time of intentionality. The great God who not only did, but does great things.
In the midst of his darkest hour, Asaph pondered God. The God who can is the God who will. The God who accomplished the impossibly big wonders is the same God who enters into our messes and provides us hope.
So what are you journeying through right now? I urge you to ponder the great wonders of God. Have an intentional time of focused remembrance. In our impossible moments we either will search inward or outward. I encourage you instead to reach upward!–JMB
