14“Now therefore fear the LORD and serve him in sincerity and in faithfulness. Put away the gods that your fathers served beyond the River and in Egypt, and serve the LORD. 15And if it is evil in your eyes to serve the LORD, choose this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your fathers served in the region beyond the River, or the gods of the Amorites in whose land you dwell. But as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.”—Joshua 24
My parents had this choice on a plaque in the house. We saw verse 15 every day. Mom and Dad bought me a similar plaque for my house. My wife and kids also see the verse every day.
The choice involves fear and service. They describe your allegiance and attitude. Sincerity and commitment describe your faithfulness.
To choose to serve Yahweh means putting away all other choices. To say the Pledge of Allegiance to the flag means that you dont go down the line and pledge to other flags.
Commitment, attitude, allegiance. These define all parts of your worship and service. This is your choice. You either serve yourself or God. You either follow your heart or His. You either live for yourself or for Him. And thats a plaque you can hang on the walls of your ’heart.’—JMB
