Simple as 1, 2, 3

13As for you, brothers, do not grow weary in doing good.–2 Thessalonians 3

This simple verse caught my eye this morning. It has 3 basic parts.

  1. BROTHERS. Paul was writing this to a church. Any Christian reading this verse needs to perk up and pay attention. Your context may be different than the 1st century Christian in Thessalonica, but the Jesus we follow is the same and the heart expectations do not change.
  2. DO NOT GROW WEARY. Tiredness can be fixed by addressing your sleep schedule and time management. Weariness is a matter of the heart. It expresses a heart that wants to give up. The church at Thessalonica didn’t have any of the material advantages of the church at Corinth. Thessalonians Christians faced more poverty and more persecution. Their situations were not to dictate their heart commitments and responses.
  3. IN DOING GOOD. No matter what you face, doing good is the right response. You may not have many friends, but you can be a good friend. You may face depression, but you can serve others. You may face anxiety, but you can model trusting God.

Let this verse encourage and guide first your thoughts and then your heart. Your attitude and words/actions will follow.–JMB
