God Listens and Remembers

1When Rachel saw that she bore Jacob no children, she envied her sister. She said to Jacob, “Give me children, or I shall die!” 2Jacob’s anger was kindled against Rachel, and he said, “Am I in the place of God, who has withheld from you the fruit of the womb?”…22Then God remembered Rachel, and God listened to her and opened her womb.–Genesis 30

Rachel and Leah were using their wombs to battle for the approval of their husband. Their existence was centered around fertility. Rachel herself was envious and scheming. And yet in the midst of all this, God still heard her and remembered her.

God doesn’t remember like we do. I forget something and then later remember it. God never forgets. His remembering is linked to his sovereign timing from our standpoint. Rachel got the story that God heard her and remembered her. God fulfilled his plan and used a broken, messy situation to do so. We won’t be surprised when God would later use Joseph’s messy story for his glory.

Keep praying in faith and trusting God. God hears you and is working out his plan. We don’t always know the answers to the what, when, why, who, or how. But we trust that God is both God and good. He sovereignly handles his business and his choice is the best one.–JMB
