6Then Esau took his wives, his sons, his daughters, and all the members of his household, his livestock, all his beasts, and all his property that he had acquired in the land of Canaan. He went into a land away from his brother Jacob. 7For their possessions were too great for them to dwell together. The land of their sojournings could not support them because of their livestock. 8So Esau settled in the hill country of Seir. (Esau is Edom.)–Genesis 36
This tells us that Esau held to the birthright belonging to his brother Jacob, even if it was obtained through deceit and trickery. Had Esau been bitter or vengeful we might have imagined him going to war with Jacob or insisting on his way. Instead he kept his word and showed humility and submission in his situation. And reading the rest of this chapter of places and names, it is obvious that God also blessed Esau.
Where in your life do you need to show submission? How can you face your situations with dependance and humility? Are you known for keeping your word?–JMB
