1The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear?
The LORD is the stronghold of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?–Psalm 27
David had enemies and he was afraid. He saw no other answer to his situation than to lean upon his relationship with God.
- LIGHT. No longer are you stubbing your toe as you walk through the dark rooms of confusion and ignorance. Turn on the light switch! the Bible directs our paths and reveals God’s expectations. Isaiah would later challenge the nation to ‘walk in the light of the Lord’ (Isaiah 2:5).
- SALVATION. David had no other hope but God. He was in dire straights and turning to God was his only answer. We do this when we proclaim Jesus as our only hope of salvation (John 14:6).
- STRONGHOLD. The Hebrew also means ‘helmet, strength, refuge, safety, and defense.’ David didn’t pursue something for his hope, but rather someone. David’s life pursuit was centered in God. God provided security and strength in David’s impossible situation.
What do you use to light your spiritual darkness? Where is your hope centered? How do you find security in your impossible situations?–JMB
