Unless the Lord

1Unless the LORD builds the house,
those who build it labor in vain.
Unless the LORD watches over the city,
the watchman stays awake in vain.–Psalm 127

Here is the great tension between our efforts and God’s plan. Here are 7 thoughts that jumped out at me as I drink my first cup of coffee this morning.

  1. Working to build something is good.
  2. Working to protect something is also good.
  3. God only has a Plan A and never a Plan B.
  4. Therefore my efforts will not change God’s Plan A. God’s not waiting for me and my efforts as if I am ultimately in control or that He needs me to continue.
  5. God prepares us to work and do works within his plan (Ephesians 2:10).
  6. It is the work of our sovereign God that ultimately accomplishes His plan.
  7. As I pray I pray for God’s will to be done, even if I don’t fully know it. As I work I know that God’s will is done as the results unfold. Good and bad results are ultimately a part of the plan of the One I trust most, God.–JMB
