20“You shall command the people of Israel that they bring to you pure beaten olive oil for the light, that a lamp may regularly be set up to burn. 21In the tent of meeting, outside the veil that is before the testimony, Aaron and his sons shall tend it from evening to morning before the LORD. It shall be a statute forever to be observed throughout their generations by the people of Israel.–Exodus 27, with emphasis
The camp was arranged with the tabernacle at the center and four tribes each around a side. Whenever I drink the recommended number of glasses of water throughout my day, my body wakes me up like clockwork at 3:30am. If I was living in this period of biblical history, as I left my tent I could look towards the center of camp and see God’s light on. A later psalm writer pictured it this way. I underlined a key part.
I lift up my eyes to the hills. From where does my help come? My help comes from the LORD, who made heaven and earth. He will not let your foot be moved; he who keeps you will not slumber. Behold, he who keeps Israel
will neither slumber nor sleep. (Psalm 121:1-4)
