Aaron and Jesus

10“Then you shall bring the bull before the tent of meeting. Aaron and his sons shall lay their hands on the head of the bull. 11Then you shall kill the bull before the LORD at the entrance of the tent of meeting, 12and shall take part of the blood of the bull and put it on the horns of the altar with your finger, and the rest ofa the blood you shall pour out at the base of the altar. 13And you shall take all the fat that covers the entrails, and the long lobe of the liver, and the two kidneys with the fat that is on them, and burn them on the altar. 14But the flesh of the bull and its skin and its dung you shall burn with fire outside the camp; it is a sin offering.–Exodus 29, emphasized

Aaron and his sons were the priests. Yet, they still were regular humans like you and me and they had their own sin issues that needed to be addressed. The New Testament book of Hebrews agrees. I underlined what stands out.

For every high priest chosen from among men is appointed to act on behalf of men in relation to God, to offer gifts and sacrifices for sins. He can deal gently with the ignorant and wayward, since he himself is beset with weakness. Because of this he is obligated to offer sacrifice for his own sins just as he does for those of the people. (Hebrews 5:1-3)

But Jesus was and is different than Aaron and all the other priests that followed. I underlined again.

And every priest stands daily at his service, offering repeatedly the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins. But when Christ had offered for all time a single sacrifice for sins, he sat down at the right hand of God,waiting from that time until his enemies should be made a footstool for his feet. For by a single offering he has perfected for all time those who are being sanctified. (Hebrews 10:11-14)

  1. WHAT AARON OFFICIATED NEEDED TO BE REPEATED.
  2. WHAT JESUS OFFICIATED WAS ONCE FOR ALL.
  3. AARON REQUIRED A BULL TO DIE AS PAYMENT FOR HIS SIN.
  4. JESUS DIED AS A PAYMENT FOR OUR SIN.–JMB
