Generational Sin [1-minute read]

6The LORD passed before him and proclaimed, “The LORD, the LORD, a God merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and abounding in steadfast love and faithfulness, 7keeping steadfast love for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin, but who will by no means clear the guilty, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children and the children’s children, to the third and the fourth generation.”–Exodus 34

  1. God is merciful and gracious.
  2. God is slow to anger and abounding in love and faithfulness.
  3. His forgiving love is linked to a larger number than visiting sin upon the generations.
  4. Sin that is ignored or never dealt with in families is a problem.
  5. The only hope is to take that sin to God.
  6. The sinful tendencies of the grandpa is passed down as an example for the dad and then to son.
  7. The hope for generational sin is for the current generation to own what they can own and start living differently. Because of the sacrificial death of Jesus, the chains can be broken. New family examples and tendencies set! Own what you can own and be biblically intentional about the right things in your life. Things starting and things stopping. There is still time!–JMB
