The Curse [1-minute read]

10For all who rely on works of the law are under a curse; for it is written, “Cursed be everyone who does not abide by all things written in the Book of the Law, and do them.” 11Now it is evident that no one is justified before God by the law, for “The righteous shall live by faith.” 12But the law is not of faith, rather “The one who does them shall live by them.” 13Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us—for it is written, “Cursed is everyone who is hanged on a tree”— 14so that in Christ Jesus the blessing of Abraham might come to the Gentiles, so that we might receive the promised Spirit through faith.–Galatians 3

BAD NEWS FOR YOU:

  1. NOBODY ESCAPES DEUTERONOMY 27:26. EVERYONE BREAKS A LAW AT SOME POINT!
  2. THEREFORE TRYING TO BE RIGHT WITH GOD SIMPLY BY OBEYING HIM IN YOUR OWN POWER IS IMPOSSIBLE.
  3. THE VERY EXPECTATIONS OF GOD BECOME LIKE A CURSE TO YOU BECAUSE YOU CAN NEVER ON YOUR OWN MEET THEM.

GOOD NEWS FOR YOU:

  1. CHRIST WILLINGLY TOOK UPON HIMSELF YOUR SIN AND CURSE. THUS HE BOUGHT YOU BACK FROM YOUR SLAVERY TO THE CURSE OF SIN.
  2. BEING RIGHT WITH GOD DEPENDS NOW UPON YOUR TRUST IN JESUS AND HIS WORK AND NOT UPON TRUSTING YOUR OWN WORKS.
  3. EVEN NON-JEWISH PEOPLE RECEIVE ABRAHAM’S BLESSING THROUGH JESUS. GENTILES RECEIVE IT NOT BY LINEAGE OR BY KEEPING THE LAW OF MOSES, BUT BY IN FAITH, TRUSTING JESUS FOR THEIR SALVATION.–JMB
