9And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up.—Galatians 6
I once pastored a slowly-ending small church for its final 10 years. And during some of those leaner, depressing years various people questioned why we still existed. I remember church meetings when selling the land and simply ending as a church came up. ‘Maybe we should give up’ was said a few times to me.
Then Galatians 6:9 above grabbed ahold of us. A harvest was coming that we could not see. We felt God calling us to be patient and to focus on giving Him glory as we waited.
Little did we know that God was leading us to merge with a bigger church. We ended with less than 30 members and now hundreds of people worship at that location weekly. The parking lot is so full that we have to run a shuttle service. The Gospel is being preached to thousands of our neighbors and so many lives are being blessed.
My little church didn’t know the specifics that harvest. We don’t know the entirety of the future harvest promised by God in this verse.
I don’t know what you face, but know that God is at work. Just keep doing good. Don’t give up!—JMB
