20Do you see a man who is hasty in his words? There is more hope for a fool than for him.—Proverbs 29
Hasty is other times in the Bible translated as ‘rash.’ The Apostle Peter is the obvious biblical character who struggled with this. Many times in the Gospels he seemed hasty in his words. He even dared to tell Jesus what to do, from time to time!
Quickness of words without thinking. A lack of pausing and reflecting before speech. Pretty much every time my mouth has gotten me into trouble, I was hasty with my speech.
Maybe you are hasty with your attitude? Maybe you act before thinking? Quickness and speed have some purpose. Haste lacks control. James 1 is a good solution…
19My dear brothers and sisters, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry, 20because human anger does not produce the righteousness that God desires.
Haste is not good. But if quick, be quick to shut up and listen. Man, I needed this proverb years ago.—JMB
