Did Jesus Need to Be a Real Human?

7For many deceivers have gone out into the world, those who do not confess the coming of Jesus Christ in the flesh.–2 John

The Apostle John faced an earlier form of Gnosticism affecting some of the churches. One of the features of this heresy was to promote that Jesus didn’t really come in the flesh, but was just a spiritual being. They did this because they believed that the spirit of a person was good and the flesh was evil. And they didn’t want to speak of Jesus as having evil flesh. So Jesus only coming as a spirit-being suited their theological narrative.

Christians believe that Jesus was and is the Son of God. He is fully God in the flesh. He is not merely just a human being like you or me. But, here’s what changes if Jesus was not really flesh and blood. Here are 10. I bet you could think of more.

  1. I NO LONGER COULD TRUST THE ACCURACY OF THE GOSPEL STORY. ESPECIALLY JOHN CHAPTER 1!
  2. CHRISTMAS IS MEANINGLESS NOW.
  3. THE IMMANUEL PROPHECY (ISAIAH 7:14) WAS NEVER FULFILLED.
  4. THE SUFFERING SERVANT OF ISAIAH 53 WAS NOT FULFILLED.
  5. EASTER IS MEANINGLESS NOW.
  6. IF JESUS COULD NOT DIE, HE COULD NOT RESURRECT. THERE GOES OUR HOPE OF ETERNAL LIFE IN HEAVEN!
  7. THERE WOULD BE NO FULFILLMENT OF THE OLD TESTAMENT SACRIFICIAL SYSTEM ONCE FOR ALL.
  8. THE OLD COVENANT WOULD STILL BE IN PLACE.
  9. TRUE PEACE WITH GOD FOR A REPENTANT SINNER NO LONGER HAS JESUS’ BLOOD OF THE COVENANT SEALING THE DEAL.
  10. THE WAGE FOR MY SINS WOULD NOT BE PAID (ROMANS 6:23). I AM STILL ON THE HOOK FOR MY SINS AND NEED TO DIE.

The Gospel no longer is good news if Jesus was not really flesh and blood.–JMB
