A Key Difference [1-minute read]

14Then he brought the bull of the sin offering, and Aaron and his sons laid their hands on the head of the bull of the sin offering.–Leviticus 8

  1. Moses did everything here that God commanded him.
  2. Aaron and his sons were given a special ordination as priests.
  3. That ordination first had to deal with their sin.
  4. The priests would thus identify with the people who also came with sacrifices for their own sins. They were suitable mediators as long as their own sins had a sacrifice.
  5. Jesus is our great High Priest forever and he never sinned.
  6. Jesus instead offered Himself as a sacrifice for our sins since he didn’t require such a sacrifice.
  7. Jesus is thus the perfect Mediator between a sinful man and the sinless God.

For it was indeed fitting that we should have such a high priest, holy, innocent, unstained, separated from sinners, and exalted above the heavens. He has no need, like those high priests, to offer sacrifices daily, first for his own sins and then for those of the people, since he did this once for all when he offered up himself.
