9“When a man is afflicted with a leprous disease, he shall be brought to the priest, 10and the priest shall look. … 16But if the raw flesh recovers and turns white again, then he shall come to the priest, 17and the priest shall examine him, and if the disease has turned white, then the priest shall pronounce the diseased person clean; he is clean.–Leviticus 13
In a time before modern medical advances, God had a system in place to handle diseases and outbreaks. The priest would have been the most morally trusted person in the community and literally represented the people before God. We assume that God therefore was working through this system He instituted to provide for the public health. Here are the advantages.
- Clear quarantine for the sick.
- Clear public restoration for the recovered.
- All in the hands of God.–JMB
