26You shall be holy to me, for I the LORD am holy and have separated you from the peoples, that you should be mine.–Leviticus 20
- God’s people were not yet in the Promised Land.
- The people groups there lived lives that were against the standards of God.
- God’s regulations were to socially and ethically set Israel apart from her neighbors.
- Thus all major areas of life, including what goes on in the dining room and the bedroom, were to communicate this.
- Israel was uniquely to be God’s in a way that other peoples were not.
- But this meant that they had to live in a manner that was right in God’s eyes.
- Paul in Galatians proclaimed that what sets people apart now to God is following Jesus.–JMB
There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is no male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus. And if you are Christ’s, then you are Abraham’s offspring, heirs according to promise. (Galatians 3:28-29)
