Blemish [1-minute read]

21No man of the offspring of Aaron the priest who has a blemish shall come near to offer the LORD’s food offerings; since he has a blemish, he shall not come near to offer the bread of his God. 22He may eat the bread of his God, both of the most holy and of the holy things, 23but he shall not go through the veil or approach the altar, because he has a blemish, that he may not profane my sanctuaries, for I am the LORD who sanctifies them.”–Leviticus 21, with emphasis

  1. Sacrificial animals were to have no blemishes.
  2. This foreshadowed the sacrifice of Jesus who had no sin.
  3. The High Priest who came into God’s presence was also to have no blemishes.
  4. This foreshadowed the High Priest role of sinless Jesus who mediates the new covenant between God and man.
  5. I love how God still uses these men with blemishes.
  6. I love how God provides for their needs. They still get to eat priest food.
  7. God was concerned with symbolism in the physical that would later point in Jesus to the spiritual.–JMB
