4but in the seventh year there shall be a Sabbath of solemn rest for the land…
10And you shall consecrate the fiftieth year, and proclaim liberty throughout the land to all its inhabitants. It shall be a jubilee for you…–Leviticus 25
- The sabbath year provided rest even for the land.
- It communicated dependance upon God.
- The Jubilee year freed every Hebrew servant and restored them to their property.
- There was nothing in the ancient world that did that. Our God uniquely cares for the vulnerable!
- Ponder the poverty and desperation those people must have been in to sell themselves to survive.
- Now think about how great that freedom must have felt as they were restored.
- Now, I invite you to consider your spiritual state. Your utter inability to on your own find a solution to the problem of your sin and the very God who sent Jesus to ransom you from your spiritual slavery!
And they sang a new song, saying: “You are worthy to take the scroll and to open its seals, because you were slain, and with your blood you purchased for God persons from every tribe and language and people and nation. (Revelation 5:9)
They are singing that song to Jesus in the throne room of Heaven.–JMB
