23Pride brings a person low, but the lowly in spirit gain honor.–Proverbs 29
Pride is an expression of selfishness and is the foundation for all sin. It is self-seeking. In an ultimate sense, the unrepentant prideful will receive the wrath of God (Romans 2:8).
The lowly in spirit are humble and have consider others over themselves. They have servant attitudes that mimic Jesus (Philippians 2:3-4). Jesus once famously promised these people the kingdom of Heaven {Matthew 5:3).
The prideful now seek honor now. They will one day be brought low.
The lowly in spirit now don’t seek that honor now. They will one day be honored.
…All of you, clothe yourselves with humility toward one another, because, “God opposes the proud but shows favor to the humble.” Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time. (1 Peter 5:5b-6)
Ponder the humility of Jesus this Good Friday.
And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to death—even death on a cross! (Philippians 2:8)
So which attitude describes you?–JMB
