1The LORD said to Moses, 2“Give these instructions to the people of Israel: The offerings you present as special gifts are a pleasing aroma to me; they are my food. See to it that they are brought at the appointed times and offered according to my instructions.–Numbers 28
“For the generations to come this burnt offering is to be made regularly at the entrance to the tent of meeting, before the Lord. There I will meet you [Moses] and speak to you; there also I will meet with the Israelites, and the place will be consecrated by my glory. (Exodus 29:42-43)
- God provided everything Israel needed.
- God instructed Israel to regularly sacrifice.
- He used two words to describe those sacrifices: “aroma” and “food.”
- This communicates that God wasn’t physically eating anything, but that it was a spiritual, non-physical experience.
- This also tells us that it was more about the relationship than about God actually eating anything.
- An ancient wife would make daily meals for her husband and the relationship would be maintained.
- The Israelites had daily assurance that God was with them. Their relationship with God was maintained through those daily, weekly, monthly, and annual sacrifices.
- How grateful we are for Jesus and His once-for-all sacrifice!
- How motivated we should be to daily spend time in the Bible “meeting” with God!
- Thank you for starting your day journeying alongside me as I have a cup of coffee with my Bible. These are good discipline times for me and I pray are a blessing to you.–JMB
