66After this many of his disciples turned back and no longer walked with him. 67So Jesus said to the twelve, “Do you want to go away as well?” 68Simon Peter answered him, “Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life, 69and we have believed, and have come to know, that you are the Holy One of God.”–John 6 (with emphasis)
Jesus had just essentially preached his followers from a large crowd to just 12. His most recent sermon had words that the masses didn’t want to hear.
So he asked the 12 if they also wanted to leave. Peter seemed to be always the first to talk. Here are the three big points Peter made about Jesus.
- Jesus offered something nobody else did.
- What Jesus offered affected eternity.
- Jesus’ identity is able to be not only believed but known.
I have friends that have come out of very difficult situations and seasons. They once lived selfish lives that rejected Jesus. And as they followed their previous paths, they ultimately found nothing but bitterness, shame, and lack of purpose.
But then Jesus found them. And they experienced what Peter did that day. And these friends today are so full of grateful joy. I love journeying with them and they encourage my faith!
- Jesus is different.
- Jesus gives true eternal hope.
- Jesus wants to know us and journey with us as we not only get to know Him, but be transformed to be more like Him!–JMB
