9Then the Lord said to me, “Do not harass the Moabites or provoke them to war, for I will not give you any part of their land. I have given Ar to the descendants of Lot as a possession.”–Deuteronomy 2
Boundaries are a good thing in relationships. Here are the three types.
- SET BY OTHERS. In your relationships, you should be sensible, appropriate, and understanding. But there is a weakness when one person sets a boundary upon another: you can’t control the other person. I can set a boundary, but I cannot control if the other person keeps it.
- SET BY GOD. The Bible is full of these types of boundaries. The 10 Commandments are famous examples. Our verse today is another. God expects you to follow His boundaries for your life. You should control that you keep these.
- SET BY SELF. The most powerful boundaries in any relationship are the ones that a person sets upon themself. The most Biblically-appropriate boundaries flow from God’s boundaries. You can control if you keep these, because they are you!
CAN’T CONTROL, SHOULD CONTROL, AND CAN CONTROL.–JMB
