9Only be careful, and watch yourselves closely so that you do not forget the things your eyes have seen or let them fade from your heart as long as you live. Teach them to your children and to their children after them.–Deuteronomy 4
What have you seen? I’ll tell you what I’ve seen in 20+ years of pastoral ministry. I’ve seen marriages on the brink of collapse be transformed by the Gospel. Couples who hated each other learning to confess and forgive. Addicts turning their journeys over to a new Higher Power, Jesus Christ! People who were villains and had hurt another owning what they can own and moving forward with accountability. People who had been victims showing undeserved grace to the one who hurt them and finding peace without bitterness. I could continue this list all morning.
I know what I have seen and I will never forget. Israel wasn’t to forget what they had seen either.
- Don’t follow your heart, but instead direct your heart to remember God.
- Share with others he hope that only Jesus provides.
- Start with your story and maximize your influence in the lives of those closest to you to give God glory.
Continue a legacy of faith and start with yourself, if necessary.–JMB
