For Your Own Good

12And now, Israel, what does the Lord your God ask of you but to fear the Lord your God, to walk in obedience to him, to love him, to serve the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul, 13and to observe the Lord’s commands and decrees that I am giving you today for your own good?–Deuteronomy 10

Ok, this was obviously written to Ancient Israel, but there are timeless truths here for us as well.

  1. FEAR GOD (let numbers 2-5 describe the manner in which you fear God)
  2. WALK IN OBEDIENCE
  3. LOVE HIM (think allegiance more than emotion here)
  4. SERVE HIM WITH YOUR THOUGHTS, FEELINGS, AND MOTIVATIONS
  5. PAY ATTENTION TO GOD’S LAWS

To do these things is for your own good. They give identity and purpose. They provide helpful boundaries. These are great marching orders for your soul.–JMB
