“Put to Death”

4It is the Lord your God you must follow, and him you must revere. Keep his commands and obey him; serve him and hold fast to him. 5That prophet or dreamer must be put to death for inciting rebellion against the Lord your God, who brought you out of Egypt and redeemed you from the land of slavery. That prophet or dreamer tried to turn you from the way the Lord your God commanded you to follow. You must purge the evil from among you.—Deuteronomy 13

The New Testament church doesn’t operate in the same manner as Ancient Israel. Yet, read this verse…

So put to death the sinful, earthly things lurking within you. Have nothing to do with sexual immorality, impurity, lust, and evil desires. Don’t be greedy, for a greedy person is an idolater, worshiping the things of this world. (Colossians 3:5)

Paul applied the concept in Deuteronomy in a spiritual and personal sense. We all have diligent, disciplined work to do.—JMB

I liked that Pastor Scott used your “People with wounds listen to people with scars.” quote in the message this weekend.
