13About Joseph he said: “May the Lord bless his land with the precious dew from heaven above and with the deep waters that lie below; 14with the best the sun brings forth and the finest the moon can yield; 15with the choicest gifts of the ancient mountains and the fruitfulness of the everlasting hills; 16with the best gifts of the earth and its fullness and the favor of him who dwelt in the burning bush. Let all these rest on the head of Joseph, on the brow of the prince among his brothers.–Deuteronomy 33
Moses was blessing the 12 tribes right before his death. This was part of his blessing toward Manasseh and Ephraim, the two sons and tribes of Joseph. Some things stood out to me. It’s cool to see Moses connecting together the books of the Bible he wrote.
Genesis: Moses connects the blessings of creation. It was Moses that gave us the creation stories about “in the beginning.” The land, the water, the sun, and the moon all recall God’s work and faithfulness in creation. From Genesis we also get the masterful story of Joseph, the prince among his brothers. God was with Joseph through unimaginable abandonment and suffering. Joseph showed grace to his undeserving brothers. God used Joseph to save Israel.
Exodus: Moses alone knew what that Burning Bush was like when he received his calling and commands from the great I AM. God had a plan to redeem His people from slavery at the miraculous bush!
God is still faithful. See Him at work in your story, my friends.–JMB
