Gibeon and Impulsivity

14The Israelites sampled [the Gibeonite delegation’s] provisions but did not inquire of the Lord. 15Then Joshua made a treaty of peace with them to let them live, and the leaders of the assembly ratified it by oath.–Joshua 9

  1. The Gibeonites were afraid of Israel and went to deceive them.
  2. They pretended to be a far away country, but really were next door neighbors.
  3. They wanted Israel to make a treaty with them vs adding their country to the conquer list.
  4. Joshua and his leaders didn’t seek God’s counsel, but simply did wht was right in their own eyes.
