19Except for the Hivites living in Gibeon, not one city made a treaty of peace with the Israelites, who took them all in battle. 20For it was the Lord himself who hardened their hearts to wage war against Israel, so that he might destroy them totally, exterminating them without mercy, as the Lord had commanded Moses.–Joshua 11
- A hardened heart does what it already wanted to do.
- It just will remain fixed and stubborn rather than changing.
- All of these nations wanted to destroy Israel.
- God simply kept them on their path so they could receive consequences.
- The Egyptian Pharaoh in Exodus who didn’t want to free the slaves also had his heart hardened by God. He also received consequences.
- It’s a good time to consider your own heart.
- How hard is your heart regarding your own sin?–JMB
