Again the high priest asked [Jesus], “Are you the Messiah, the Son of the Blessed One?”
62“I am,” said Jesus. “And you will see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of the Mighty One and coming on the clouds of heaven.”
63The high priest tore his clothes. “Why do we need any more witnesses?” he asked. 64“You have heard the blasphemy. What do you think?”
They all condemned him as worthy of death. 65Then some began to spit at him; they blindfolded him, struck him with their fists, and said, “Prophesy!” And the guards took him and beat him.–Mark 14
[Personal note: My last surviving grandmother died. She was on hospice. I am downstate with my family today and will officiate a graveside ceremony later this afternoon. I invite you to pray for those who will hear the Gospel today maybe for the first time. Thank you, friends.–JMB]
- Jesus claimed to be the Messiah.
- This meant that He claimed to be the fulfillment of many of His colleagues prophecies about the future.
- Jesus publicly linked the Messiah to the Son of Man from Daniel 7.
- The Son of Man in that prophecy is divine and fully received worship alongside HaShem.
- The Son of Man is a part of Judaism that otherwise is difficult to explain or ignore.
- Son of Man was Jesus’ favorite nickname for Himself for a reason!
- Only then did they accuse Jesus and try to kill him. Jesus claimed to be God and His enemies fully understood it that way!–JMB
