Are You Deceiving Yourself?

8If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. 9If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.–1 John 1

What deceptions regarding sin do you use?

  1. I DON’T HAVE A SIN PROBLEM?
  2. MY SIN ISN’T THAT BAD.
  3. I AM NOT AS MESSED UP AS OTHER PEOPLE.
  4. I DON’T NEED TO BE SAVED FROM ANYTHING.
  5. YEAH, I HAVEN’T BEEN PERFECT, BUT I’M BASICALLY A GOOD PERSON.

The bad news is that if you claim any of those, you are living a lie and not Biblical truth. You therefore have no basis for hope, because you are saying that you don’t need Jesus and His sacrifice on your behalf.

The good news is that though we still sin, we have hope because of Jesus. We can confess our sins to God and to others we have wronged. When we do so with a humble heart God promises to forgive and cleanse. God forgives because of the death of Jesus as your substitute. If you trust in Jesus for your salvation, you are forgiven when you live these verses.–JMB
