36Some time later Paul said to Barnabas, “Let us go back and visit the believers in all the towns where we preached the word of the Lord and see how they are doing.” 37Barnabas wanted to take John, also called Mark, with them, 38but Paul did not think it wise to take him, because he had deserted them in Pamphylia and had not continued with them in the work. 39They had such a sharp disagreement that they parted company. Barnabas took Mark and sailed for Cyprus, 40but Paul chose Silas and left, commended by the believers to the grace of the Lord. 41He went through Syria and Cilicia, strengthening the churches.–Acts 15
Epaphras, my fellow prisoner in Christ Jesus, sends you greetings. And so do Mark, Aristarchus, Demas and Luke, my fellow workers. The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit. (Philemon 23-25)
- Even the best ministries occasionally have disagreements.
- Barnabas and Paul disagreed over John Mark joining them.
- I love in the letter to Philemon that Paul sent a greeting from that same Mark.
- This meant that at a later point, Paul decided to journey again with Mark.
- This also meant that at some point, Paul no longer had any issue with Mark.
- In the letter to Philemon, Paul was urging Philemon to forgive Onesimus and to be reconciled with him.
- Paul demonstrated that by being reconciled to Mark. The same Mark he once parted ways with in the ministry. Be reconciled to others!–JMB
