The Wrath of God

18The wrath of God is being revealed from heaven against all the godlessness and wickedness of people, who suppress the truth by their wickedness…–Romans 1

For God did not appoint us to suffer wrath but to receive salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ. (1 Thessalonians 5:9)

  1. For God to be a just Judge, wickedness and sin must get His wrath.
  2. This is what is meant when a Christian uses the word “saved.” A repentant follower of Jesus is saved from this very wrath of God.
  3. The only way this works is if my sins are placed on Jesus who receives the wrath of God in my place.
  4. Thus, God’s wrath is satisfied and my sins receive what they are due.
  5. I however am saved from that wrath. Jesus died in my place and paid the price for my sins.
  6. Considering sinless Jesus and sinful me, this is the cross seems like the most unfair transaction in history.
  7. Do you see this also as your story? Do you trust Jesus alone for salvation from God’s wrath?–JMB
