Heart and Mouth

9If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved.–Romans 10

  1. INSIDE: This is the realm of private faith and belief. Here, you believe the impossible–Jesus raised from the dead. That kind of faith sets you apart from others. The faith that trusts God to raise Jesus is the same faith that trusts Jesus’ death to fully pay for sins. Thus, you are justified in God’s courtroom and saved from His wrath.
  2. OUTSIDE: This is the realm of public expression of your faith. In the recovery world, there is a difference between privately doing your moral inventory and then publicly sharing that inventory with another person. Here, this is making your private faith public.
  3. BOTH: God expects both your inside and outside to express your faith. In today’s world, I would also include the things you post. What do they communicate about your faith? So many people invest so much energy into the things of this world. They would happily talk about politics or sports, but never about Jesus. Your inside and outside will serve the God or “god” that you revere most.–JMB
