Final Appeal

17I appeal to you, brothers, to watch out for those who cause divisions and create obstacles contrary to the doctrine that you have been taught; avoid them.18For such persons do not serve our Lord Christ, but their own appetites, and by smooth talk and flattery they deceive the hearts of the naive.–Romans 16

  1. About the Gospel and basic understanding of Christianity, the Bible is blessedly clear.
  2. There are those who would rather make divisions where the Bible doesn’t.
  3. Others create obstacles that complicate matters.
  4. Cults do this when they either add Scripture or subtract Scripture from the Bible.
  5. I personally do not trust anyone who does either of these two things.
  6. Their goal is twofold: satisfy their own appetites and deceiving others to do so.
  7. Just take the Bible at face value! Read it, study it, seek to understand it. Don’t have an agenda where the Bible does not. Don’t remove things because you are uncomfortable with them (say, predestination). Don’t add your commentary and make it equal to Scripture.–JMB
