16There are six things the Lord hates, seven that are detestable to him: 17haughty eyes, a lying tongue, hands that shed innocent blood, 18a heart that devises wicked schemes, feet that are quick to rush into evil, 19a false witness who pours out lies and a person who stirs up conflict in the community.–Proverbs 6
- Haughty eyes: this is a superior arrogance. maybe you always have to be right or seen as the expert.
- Lying tongue: this one is obvious
- Hands that shed innocent blood: obviously the murderer. but Jesus once linked murder with angry hatred (Matthew 5). so this is the opposite of a peacemaker. in today’s world, looking for conflict rather than promoting peace. pursuing division where there should be unity.
- a heart that devises wicked schemes: this is selfishness starting deep in your heart.
- feet that are quick to rush into evil: this is the outflow of the selfish, wicked heart. this is the reactionary evil person.
- a false witness who pours out lies: this person is untrustworthy because they don’t pursue truth
- a person who stirs up conflict in the community: these are church dividers, gossips, selfish people who always have to get their point across no matter the consequences
what would those closest to you say regarding you and these 7? what does your social media presence communicate?–JMB
