1. David was on the run from his traitorous son, Absalom.
2. Absalom had been gathering advice from his council.
3. God caused one advisor to be more persuasive than another to Absalom.
4. God sovereignly was protecting David.
5. God works through his divine providence, which is seen in the ordinary events of life.
