What Stories Do You Carry Forward?

9Throughout the tribes of Israel, all the people were arguing among themselves, saying, “The king [David] delivered us from the hand of our enemies; he is the one who rescued us from the hand of the Philistines. But now he has fled the country to escape from Absalom; 10and Absalom, whom we anointed to rule over us, has died in battle. So why do you say nothing about bringing the king back?”–2 Samuel 19

  1. The traitorous prince Absalom was dead.
  2. David had fled from Absalom rather than face him directly.
  3. The king was now reclaiming his city and throne.
  4. Some people chose to remember stories of David’s faithfulness.
  5. Others chose to remember stories of David’s unfaithfulness.
  6. What stories about yourself, others, and God do you carry forward?
  7. These stories direct your thoughts, which in turn instruct your feelings.–JMB
