A Trinity Moment at a Baptism

32And John [the Baptist] bore witness: “I saw the Spirit descend from heaven like a dove, and it remained on him. 33I myself did not know him, but he who sent me to baptize with water said to me, ‘He on whom you see the Spirit descend and remain, this is he who baptizes with the Holy Spirit.’ 34And I have seen and have borne witness that this is the Son of God.”–John 1

  1. John the Baptist participated in a Trinity moment.
  2. God the Father spoke to Him. God the Son was being baptized. God the Holy Spirit was also present in a unique way.
  3. All three Persons of the Trinity were present at the same moment and different from each other.
  4. This ministry of Jesus was going to be to the glory of the Father and in the power of the Holy Spirit, who remained on Jesus.
  5. The testimony of John is that Jesus is different. He is the Son of God.
  6. Jesus’ ministry was going to be different than that of any other. Jesus was going to be unique. He would represent God and have power like God.
  7. The big choice for you is if you believe that Jesus indeed is God. As we continue in the Gospel of John, you need to remember this unique baptism moment. Because if Jesus is all this, then everything hinges around Him.–JMB
