66From this time many of his disciples turned back and no longer followed him. 67“You do not want to leave too, do you?” Jesus asked the Twelve.
68Simon Peter answered him, “Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life. 69We have come to believe and to know that you are the Holy One of God.”–John 6
- Jesus had just given a hard teaching and many walked away from Him.
- If was as if Jesus had just preached his following from thousands to just 12.
- Peter’s response first speaks of Jesus. Only Jesus offered true hope and they could not find that hope anywhere else.
- Peter’s response next speaks of themselves. They believed that Jesus was unique, truly represented God, and nobody else was like Him.
- So what Jesus brings and who Jesus is. Peter and crew weren’t replacing that or finding it elsewhere.
- Some people believe that “all spokes lead to the center of the wheel” or that every religion will eventually lead you to truth and hope. Peter wasn’t leaving Jesus, because ONLY Jesus offered truth and hope. For Peter, faith was an either/or and not a both/and.
- Come to grips this morning with who Jesus is and what He truly offers. Some parts of the Bible are difficult or you may not even like them. But are you going anywhere? Are you walking away from Jesus?–JMB
