28Then Jesus, still teaching in the temple courts, cried out, “Yes, you know me, and you know where I am from. I am not here on my own authority, but he who sent me is true. You do not know him, 29but I know him because I am from him and he sent me.”
30At this they tried to seize him, but no one laid a hand on him, because his hour had not yet come. 31Still, many in the crowd believed in him. They said, “When the Messiah comes, will he perform more signs than this man?”–John 7
- Jesus hit them theologically and hard. The people claimed to know Jesus, but not the Father who sent Jesus.
- Jesus claimed to actually know the God that they thought they knew.
- Sadly, to reject Jesus is to reject the Father who sent Jesus. I feel that in my own limited way. Try claiming to be close to me if you reject or mistreat my kids!
- Why couldn’t the mob lay a hand on Jesus? Because His time to be arrested had now come yet. This is John chapter 7. Jesus will be arrested in John chapter 18.
- Others saw all this and believed in Jesus as the Messiah.
- For those of you on the fence about Jesus, take to heart verse 31. What more would you expect out of Jesus? He died to pay the price for your sins and literally solved your most pressing problem.
- It’s time to respond in faith. It’s time for enough theologically to be enough.–JMB
