A Blind Man and God’s Plan

1As he went along, he saw a man blind from birth. 2His disciples asked him, “Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?”

3“Neither this man nor his parents sinned,” said Jesus, “but this happened so that the works of God might be displayed in him.–John 9

  1. The disciples asked a question that reflected what must have been a common thought in their day.
  2. Today, we might think of such things when babies are born with fetal alcohol syndrome, for example.
  3. But Jesus turned the question around.
  4. The man was blind not because of someone’s sin, but because of the sovereign plan of God.
  5. The man was to endure blindness all of his life so that God’s works would be displayed in him.
  6. As the chapter plays out, we learn that not only was the man healed, but he gave evidence to the religious leaders that Jesus was from God.
  7. Your story also has been written by God, my friend. He alone knows why you endure what you do. But make it your goal to see your story used for God’s glory. There is no greater honor.–JMB
