Paul and Recovery

1And so it was with me, brothers and sisters. When I [Paul] came to you [the Corinthians], I did not come with eloquence or human wisdom as I proclaimed to you the testimony about God. 2For I resolved to know nothing while I was with you except Jesus Christ and him crucified.–1 Corinthians 2

  1. I have a broken, messy past that featured selfishness and addiction.
  2. Jesus has transformed me and turned my mess into His message!
  3. What I have to offer other people in recovery as I share my story is Jesus. He is the hero. He alone gets the credit for the transformation and sobriety He has brought to my life. I give my wife a lot of credit, too. She also is my hero.
  4. Jesus is the only hope I have to offer people in recovery.
  5. Paul had a past, too. Jesus was all he had to offer, as well.
  6. Jesus crucified means sins are paid for. The repentant one turning from his past and turning to Jesus actually has hope of a new life! For the humble person in recovery, that hope is everything.
  7. Is Jesus your hope? Is God using your mess for His message?–JMB
