1Brothers and sisters, I [Paul] could not address you [the Corinthian church] as people who live by the Spirit but as people who are still worldly—mere infants in Christ. 2I gave you milk, not solid food, for you were not yet ready for it. Indeed, you are still not ready. –1 Corinthians 3
- Paul was giving a critical assessment to the Corinthian church.
- He pictured them at one point as babies needing special treatment.
- He clearly expected them to mature and grow in the faith.
- They had not done so, for they still had the same struggles that they did before. They were still more worldly and less Christlike.
- Think of your life and a sin you struggle with. Do you simply call it a struggle or you do actually struggle with it?
- Think big picture. Are you sinning at the same frequency and in the same way as you were 10 years ago? 2 years ago? Are you seeing any growth? Has there been any change or are you living as a hypocrite who claims to follow Jesus but really just follows yourself?
- Sorry, that was tough. But that used to be me. I was that hypocrite. Enough already. Get help regarding your sin. Pursue biblical counseling or appropriate accountability. Go to Celebrate Recovery. I did. You are not meant to remain the baby, but to grow into maturity.–JMB
