Consider Your Public Life

9Be careful, however, that the exercise of your rights does not become a stumbling block to the weak.–1 Corinthians 8

  1. Paul was discussing if Christians could eat food sacrificed to idols if they did so with a clear conscience.
  2. Paul reminded them that though their conscience may be clear, they just might be making it harder for a weaker brother or sister who struggles in that area.
  3. I oversee Celebrate Recovery at my church.
  4. I journey alongside some who struggle with alcohol, and I don’t have that particular struggle.
  5. I am very careful in what I consume and where I consume it. I usually am drinking a diet soft drink when I go out.
  6. Drinking alcohol might not be my issue, but me drinking in public could cause others to stumble. I don’t want to do that. It’s not worth it.
  7. Think about your public life. I would also include your social media posts as part of that. Are you presenting Jesus or your selfish desires? Could you be causing someone to stumble?–JMB
