20Brothers and sisters, stop thinking like children. In regard to evil be infants, but in your thinking be adults.–1 Corinthians 14
- The context here is Paul instructing the Corinthian church about the proper usage of certain spiritual gifts like tongues.
- A church’s worship service, according to Paul, should be orderly and not chaotic.
- Children think more of themselves and adults or parents think about the needs of others.
- Infants are innocent and inexperienced. Imagine if that described your sin struggle! Most of us are otherwise. I know I am.
- We each have to take sin and temptation seriously.
- But our thoughts need to be mature, responsible, and pursuing care for others. That again is what adults should be like. Some of you reading this struggle with selfishness or a lack of self-control. I used to be that way.
- I urge you to take Paul’s command seriously. It makes no sense for an adult to act like an infant. Yet, the more you mature in Christ like an adult, the more you should also be like an innocent, inexperienced infant regarding sin.–JMB
