The Walls of Self-Control

28Like a city whose walls are broken through is a person who lacks self-control.–Proverbs 25

  1. Imagine your life as a city under attack.
  2. The only hope for that city is that the walls do not break.
  3. Those walls of the city that is your life are your self-control.
  4. In a world that promotes self-love and self-fulfillment, remember that Jesus demands self-denial (Luke 9:23) and a fruit of the Spirit is indeed self-control (Galatians 5:22-23).
  5. What parts of your life would disastrously crumble if you were undisciplined?
  6. How is your self-control holding your life in place as you follow Jesus? What would others say about your self-control?
  7. What small compromises are you allowing that will eventually produce cracks in those walls? I daily need to take this seriously, myself.–JMB
