2“I [King David]am about to go the way of all the earth,” he said. “So be strong, act like a man, 3and observe what the Lord your [Crown Prince Solomon] God requires: Walk in obedience to him, and keep his decrees and commands, his laws and regulations, as written in the Law of Moses.–1 Kings 2
- These were final words between a father and a son.
- David covers how Solomon should be, how he should act, what he should observe, how he should walk, and what he should keep.
- These are all wonderful verbs that describe every aspect of life.
- We are not surprised that Solomon would compose many proverbs describing the life his father commanded him to live.
- Remember, though. David wasn’t just saying to be sincere about life, as if sincerity or energy were enough.
- David linked the faithful life to following the Bible and obeying God. David was concrete and not pluralistic about this.
- Be, act, observe, walk, and keep. Think about these verbs in your own life. What standard do live by? Is it the Bible? I have to stay diligent, as well.–JMB
